A look at Hackney during the 70s and 80s

Over 100 images by photographer Neil Martinson have gone on display at Stour Space – an exhibition over the largest collection of imagery taken in Hackney throughout the 70s and 80s – a time when Hackney saw large scale manufacturing and were still recovering from post-warm slum clearance.

Neil Martinson was born and raised in Hackney and started taking photos of the local area whilst still at school. These photographs consisted mainly of street scenes and documentation of local working lives. Many of his images have appeared in books and have been used by local housing campaigns, education and trade union rights. His work has also appeared in national magazines and newspapers as well as a collection at the National Portrait Gallery.

On now – February 22nd.
