Pussy Riot launch an activist clothing line

Feminist protest punk rock band Pussy Riot have launched an activist clothing line, inspired by Russia’s flourishing youth political movement, that features a collection of t-shirts, badges, sock and the group’s trademark balaclavas in a variety of neon-pop colourways. This exclusive collection is the result of a collaboration between Pussy Riot, Kultrab and 9cyka with proceeds from sales going towards independent media company Mediazona’s activist journalism. Speaking of the inspiration behind the collaboration, Pussy Riot member Nadya Tolokonnikova said that last year the band witness a number of protests on the streets of Russia that consisted mostly of teenagers.

Tolokonnikova also highlighted the difficulty of running an independent media source in Russia due to government intervention and not being able to fund themselves via advertising or grants. As state-sanctioned media continues to dominate, Russian youth have decided to mobilise. Mediazona acts as the Russian youth’s independent, uncensored outlet.
