Charles Jeffrey has teamed up with Topshop and Topman on a LGBTQI+ collection

Since Jeffrey’s LOVERBOY label inception he has brought queer club culture to the Brit fashion scene and therefore it makes perfect sense that he was tapped for an exclusive collaboration with high street giants Topshop and Topman.

In celebration of Pride London-based designer Charles Jeffrey has curated a line of bold and unabashed T-shirts featuring the work of five LGBTQI+ artists.

“The artists are all people I’m either close friends with, or have wanted to collaborate with for a while,” says Jeffrey. “They’re hugely talented and, equally importantly for this project, they’re all really smart, sensitive spokespeople. They work in lots of different mediums, so the artwork in the collection is really varied, but I feel like it’s come together in a really cohesive line-up. I’m so proud of it.”

Each designer was given a different gay right to focus on, including the right to serve within the military, the right to adopt and the right to marriage. The collection also acts as a tribute to Jeffrey’s icons such as Derek Jarman, Sylvia Rivera and George Michael, the latter Jeffrey describes as ‘bolder, braver and more honest than any artist I can think of.’

For the lookbook shoot Jeffrey enlisted the help of his long-term collaborator and photographer Thurstan Redding. The images were captured at the Pale Blue Door in Shoreditch and embodies a raw, candid feel.

As well as raising awareness for LGBTQI+ rights, 30% of the proceeds of the collection will to Diversity Role Models – an initiative that sees school children educated about normalising atypical families as well as looking at shared learning experiences.

Topshop Topman x Charles Jeffrey Loverboy launches online on Thursday June 21 and in a selection of stores on Friday June 22.
